The establishment of the 5×1000 marked a significant turning point in recognizing the free contribution of all citizens to the building of the country’s welfare system. Twenty years later, the 5×1000 today stands as an indelible sign of grassroots participation in the well-being and development of local areas and as a popular application of the principle of subsidiarity. What future prospects can reflect the same ideal drive, to overcome the false opposition between economic development and social cohesion?
