SICK CAPITALISM

Keynote by Luigi Zingales, Economist, University of Chicago. With Emilio Colombo, Professor of Economic Policy, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore; Piergiovanna Natale, Professor of Political Economy, Università di Milano Bicocca. Moderated by Mattia Ferraresi, Journalist, Domani

Large corporations, driven by seemingly sound values and led by respectable individuals, often make decisions that can harm society. The structure of contemporary capitalism tends to shield executive choices: when things go wrong, leaders can always claim they acted in the interest of shareholders—even if those choices conflict with the public good. How can we break free from this vicious cycle? Only conscious “citizen investors” can act as a counterbalance to the disproportionate influence of big business.
