RETHINKING THE HUMAN TODAY

The question is whether, in the face of increasingly evident differences related to cultures and historical situations, to the concrete experiences of communities and individuals, and to the many perspectives within our own culture, there are still recognisable needs and truths that we all share — fundamental dynamics that, though expressed in very different ways, are common to us and can be called “the human.” Answering this question is a difficult and fascinating challenge, one that lies at the root of both a renewed discovery of the self and a more conscious openness to others — to individuals, peoples, and cultures.
