TEACHING AS A PROFESSION: THE TEACHER AS THE PROTAGONIST BETWEEN BUREAUCRACY AND FREEDOM OF TEACHING

Organised by Associazione Culturale Il Rischio Educativo, Cdo Opere Educative, Diesse, Di.S.A.L., ASLAM

Ivana Barbacci, national secretary of CISL Scuola; Elena Fazi, National President of the UCIIM association; Esther Flocco, National President of the Associazione Italiana Maestri Cattolici (AIMC); Carmela Palumbo, Head of the department for the educational system of instruction and training, Ministry of Education and Merit. Introduced and moderated by Carlo Di Michele, President of Diesse

The school system today oscillates between excessive bureaucratization and the push toward procedural standards that risk suffocating the teacher’s autonomy. The meeting aims to reflect on how the “school of compliance” is transforming the teaching role, seeking paths to bring pedagogical planning back to the center. The contribution of experiences from the associational and trade-union worlds aims to define proposals to understand how to safeguard the quality of teaching and educational protagonism in the face of an increasingly pervasive administrative burden. Two themes are to be explored: the pedagogical perspective and the ethical value of the profession, and the teacher’s new contractual profile, against the “clerical drift”.
