Who we are
SAINT FRANCIS. THE POET OF HUMANITY AND OF GOD
Davide Rondoni, poet and President of the National Committee for the Eighth Centenary of the Death of Saint Francis of Assisi; Alessandro Sortino, writer, journalist, and television author. Introduced by Letizia Bardazzi, president of the Associazione Italiana Centri Culturali
Eight hundred years after his death, Francis of Assisi continues to elude easy simplifications: ecological icon, symbol of pacifism, Saint for a postcard. The “Canticle of the Creatures” is in fact one of the most radical texts of Western civilization. Praise not as an escape from reality, but as a more lucid gaze upon it. A dialogue between literature and life, on the occasion of the centenary, to try to restore the true measure of a man who loved God, the Church, and his people above all else.
