Twenty years after his death, the Meeting offers a passionate journey through songs and prose on the theme of the search for the wholeness of the self, present in Gaber’s work. Although the current world has in many ways profoundly changed compared to the one described by the author in his songs, today’s man – and young people in particular – are faced with the same existential, dramatic and inevitable questions.
In the discomfort of the culture in which we are immersed, the ego finds itself disintegrated, split, in pieces: in the drama of human relationships that we find ourselves experiencing today, is it possible to find one’s wholeness again?
It is Gaber’s intuition that leads us towards a new awareness of ourselves and of the world: the search for a relationship in which we rediscover ourselves as people reveals the possibility of meeting someone who can put the pieces of our ego back together. The experience of the authors of the show intersects in a completely original way with Gaber’s words, creating unexpected and sharp parallels. The itinerary has the rhythm and timing of a comedy-song, in which each drama is highlighted in an ironic and light key. The performance includes 16 songs by Gaber interspersed with monologues in the manner of song theatre. Gaber’s words are borrowed, updated to make their contemporaneity evident. The show offers, among Gaber’s songs and monologues, also some original monologues, written starting from the experience of the authors.
