Giancarlo Giorgetti

Giancarlo Giorgetti, (December 16, 1966) has been Italy’s Minister of Economy and Finance since October 22, 2022, in the Meloni Government. He holds a degree in Business Economics from Università Bocconi and is a certified public accountant and auditor. Born and residing in Cazzago Brabbia, he comes from a family of fishermen and workers.

He served as Mayor of Cazzago Brabbia from April 23, 1995, to June 12, 2004. Elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies in 1996, he has served continuously since then. From 2001 to 2006 and from 2008 to 2013, he chaired the Budget, Treasury, and Planning Committee; in 2006–2007, he was Vice President of the Foreign Affairs Committee. In April 2013, he was appointed among the ten “wise men” for institutional reforms by President Giorgio Napolitano. From March 26 to May 7, 2013, he presided over the Special Commission for the examination of government acts and, from 2013 to 2018, the Parliamentary Commission for the Implementation of Fiscal Federalism. Since March 2014, he has led the Italian delegation in the collaboration group between the U.S. House of Representatives and the Italian Chamber of Deputies.
Since 2015, Giorgetti has served as Federal Deputy Secretary of the Lega. He was Undersecretary of State at the Presidency of the Council with responsibility for Sport in the Conte I Government (June 1, 2018 – September 4, 2019) and Minister of Economic Development in the Draghi Government (February 13, 2021 – October 22, 2022).

He is married to Laura Ferrari and has one daughter. A practicing Catholic, he represented the Italian Government at the funeral of Pope Benedict XVI.
