Beccalli Elena

Elena Beccalli will hold the position of Rector of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore as of 1 July 2024. Before taking on this role, from 2014 to 2024, she was Dean of the Faculty of Banking, Finance and Insurance Sciences at the same University. She is also full professor of Economics of Financial Intermediaries in the same Faculty.
Parallel to her work in Italy, Elena Beccalli has gained significant international experience. She is a research associate at the Centre for Analysis of risk and regulation at the London School of Economics (UK), an institution at which she has also previously held the roles of tutorial fellow, lecturer and visiting professor. He is also an academic fellow at the Centre for Responsible Banking & Finance at the University of St Andrews (UK). He has also worked as a visiting professor at the Singapore Institute of Management (Singapore) and the China Center for Economic Research at Peking University (China).
Within the Catholic University, Elena Beccalli is Director of the Cooperative Credit Research Centre. She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Monetary Analysis Laboratory and a member of the Steering Committee of the Research Centre on Cooperation and Non-Profit, the Research Centre for Financial Education and the Centre for Applied Economics Studies. He is also a member of the steering committee of the PhD in Economics and finance at the Università Cattolica and in the scientific committee of the PhD of national interest in Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology. He also directs the second-level master’s degree in Credit Risk Management (CRERIM).
His activities also extend into the associative and publishing spheres. She is president of the Italian section of the European Association for Banking and Finance Law (AEDBF). In the past, she was a board member of the Accademia Italiana di Economia Aziendale (AIDEA) and co-president of the European Financial Management Association. She is co-editor of the Journal of financial management, markets and institutions.
His main scholarly interests focus on the banking sector analysed from the perspective of industrial organisation, with a focus on topics such as technology, efficiency, cooperation and financial biodiversity. In more recent years, her studies have also focused on issues of ethics and inclusiveness, sustainability, artificial intelligence and women’s leadership.
Elena Beccalli is also active in ecclesial and social initiatives. She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation and is a member of the Expert Group on Socially Responsible Investment of the Italian Bishops’ Conference. He coordinated the course on the Document Oeconomicae et pecuniariae quaestiones, promoted by the Catholic University in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Milan. He participated as a senior expert in the Village Finance and Humanity within The Economy of Francesco and contributed to the drafting of the document Mensuram Bonam.
