On the occasion of the release of the book “A Face in History. The Mission of the Church in the World (1969–1970)” by Luigi Giussani (Rizzoli). In the turmoil of 1968, Fr. Giussani perceived the deep thirst for authenticity underlying the protest movements. In a series of meetings with a group of young people, rather than offering spiritual escapism or ideological solutions to the issues of his time, Giussani pointed to the Church as the source of every genuine human attempt to respond to the desire for truth, justice, love, and freedom. Only within a living Christian communion can we experience liberation—that is, the coming of a more human world. A proposal that stands the test of time and proves more necessary than ever in facing today’s challenges.
