Viganò Lorenzo

Lorenzo Viganò, born in Milan in 1961, is an Italian journalist and writer known for his work with Corriere della Sera and for his long-standing commitment to promoting and preserving the legacy of Dino Buzzati. He began his journalism career in 1987, working for magazines, weeklies, and newspapers, including a more than twenty-year tenure at Corriere della Sera.

Viganò’s interest in Buzzati was sparked by reading Le notti difficili, the author’s final collection of short stories. This led him to become one of the most authoritative scholars and editors of Buzzati’s works. He collaborated with Almerina Buzzati, the writer’s widow, to organize Buzzati’s personal archives, culminating in the publication of major works such as La nera di Dino Buzzati (2002)—a collection of crime reports written by Buzzati for Corriere della Sera and Corriere d’informazione between 1945 and 1971—and Album Buzzati (2006), an illustrated biography featuring interviews, diary entries, unpublished correspondence, and photographs.

In addition to his journalism, Viganò curated the investigative reporting segments for the first three seasons of Blu Notte, a crime history television program hosted by Carlo Lucarelli and aired on Rai 3.

In 2023, he received the Special Montale “Fuori di Casa” Award for his extensive and insightful study of the life and work of Dino Buzzati, helping to renew interest in the author among younger generations.

Among his most recent publications is Buzzati. Album di una vita tra immagini e parole (Buzzati: An Album of a Life in Images and Words), a volume that pairs personal and family photographs with the writer’s words, offering a visual biography enriched with interviews, letters, diary entries, and notes.
