Viganò Dario Edoardo

Dario Edoardo Viganò (born in Rio de Janeiro, June 27, 1962) is Assessor of the Secretariat of Communication (SpC) of the Holy See, Ministry of which he was Prefect from June 27, 2015 to March 21, 2018 in charge of the Reform of the Vatican Media System. He was Director of the Vatican Television Center (CTV) from January 22, 2013 to December 21, 2015. He is also a Member of the Congregation for the Clergy and of the Congregation for Catholic Education for the Holy See as of September 29, 2016.
He is a full Professor of “Communication Theology” at the Pontifical Lateran University; he was the Head of the pastoral Institute “Redemptor Hominis” from 2006 to 2012 and Director of the Lateran Center Graduate School (CLAS). He was co-Director of the Master course in “Digital Journalism”, at the Pontifical Lateran University (from 2013 to 2016).

As of 2016 he has been a professor of the Masters courses in Production and Screenwriting for cinema and television at the LUISS Creative Business Center of the LUISS Business School; he was also a professor of “Audiovisual language and markets”, from 2005 to 2015, at the Department of Political Science at the LUISS “Guido Carli” University.
President of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo (FEdS) and Director of the cinema publication «Rivista del Cinematografo» from 2004 to 2013, in the same years he also covered the role of President of the National Commission of Film Evaluation (CNVF) of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI).
Administration Councillor of the Experimental Cinematographic Center (Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia) from 2008 to 2012, with delegation to the National Film Library and Publishing, he was also a Member of the Sub-commission for the Acknowledgment of Cultural Interest (Feature film) of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities from 2006 to 2011. In the realm of cinematography and audiovisuals, as of 2013 he has coordinated various teams in the conception and production of documentaries dedicated to the Pope and the Holy See, films that were then presented in the major Festivals in Italy and abroad (Venice, Rome, Cannes, Cuba).
As of 2010, he has been Associate Correspondent to the Pontifical Theological Academy, and the author of numerous studies dedicated to the analysis of the relationship between the media and the Catholic world, with particular attention to cinema.
