Valditara Giuseppe

Giuseppe Valditara, born on January 12, 1961, is the Minister of Education and Merit in the Meloni Government since October 2022.

He graduated in Law from the University of Milan and pursued an academic career, becoming a professor of Roman law and ancient rights at the Department of Law of the University of Turin.

In 1992, he won the International Prize for the History of Political and Legal Institutions, awarded by the Presidency of the Constitutional Court, with his book “Studi sul magister populi. Dagli ausiliari militari del rex ai primi magistrati repubblicani”.

He served as the scientific director of the legal journal “Studi giuridici europei” published by the European University of Rome, as well as the dean of the Law degree program at the same university.

He began his political career in Alleanza Nazionale and after its dissolution, he joined Popolo delle Libertà. Later, he joined Futuro e libertà and eventually switched to Lega. His first institutional position dates back to 2000 when he became the Education Assessor for the province of Milan.

In 2001, he was elected as a senator of the Republic and was reelected in the XV and XVI legislatures. He held various parliamentary positions, including the vice presidency of the Joint Committee for Childhood and membership in the Senate Committee on Regional Affairs.

In 2010, he collaborated on the drafting of the reform of the university system proposed by the then Minister Gelmini.

From 2018 to 2019, he served as the head of the “Higher Education and Research” department of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (Miur) during the tenure of Minister Marco Bussetti.

Having aligned himself with Lega, since September 2022, he has been a political advisor to the leader of Lega Party, Matteo Salvini.

Since October 22, 2022, he has been the Minister of Education and Merit in the Meloni government.
