Valditara Giuseppe

Giuseppe Valditara, born on 12 January 1961, has been Italy’s Minister of Education and Merit since 22 October 2022 in the Meloni Government. He graduated in Law from the Università degli Studi di Milano and is a full professor of Roman Law and Ancient Rights at the Department of Law of the Università degli Studi di Torino. In 1992, he received the International Prize for the History of Political and Legal Institutions, awarded by the Presidency of the Constitutional Court, for his book Studi sul magister populi. He served as scientific director of the journal Studi giuridici europei at the Università Europea di Roma and as dean of the Law degree program at the same university.
His political career began in Alleanza Nazionale; he later joined Popolo della Libertà, Futuro e Libertà, and finally Lega. In 2000, he served as Councillor for Education of the Province of Milan; in 2001 he was elected Senator of the Republic, a position he also held in the XV and XVI Legislatures. In 2010, he contributed to the reform of the university system promoted by Minister Mariastella Gelmini. From 2018 to 2019, he was Head of the “Higher Education and Research” Department at the MIUR during the mandate of Minister Marco Bussetti.
In 2025, he promoted several institutional initiatives: he represented Italy at a symposium on technical and vocational education in Egypt, supporting an agreement to establish 89 technical and vocational schools; he visited the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, promoting cooperation in education, artificial intelligence, and vocational training. The Ministry announced over 54,000 teacher hires for the 2025/2026 school year and defined the methods and timing of the 2025/2026 Teacher Card (Carta del Docente).
