Tinagli Irene

Irene Tinagli, born in Empoli on April 16, 1974, is an Italian economist and politician, Member of the European Parliament, and Chair of the Special Committee on the Housing Crisis of the European Union.
She completed her academic training at Bocconi University (degree in Business and Innovation Economics), Carnegie Mellon University (Master of Science and PhD in Public Policy with a specialization in innovation and development economics), and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government (Global Leadership Program).
She has worked as a consultant for national and regional governments in Europe, the United Nations, and the European Commission on innovation, creativity, human capital development, and regional/urban development. In Italy, she served as advisor to the Ministers of Cultural Heritage, Education, and Justice. From 2009 to 2013, she taught Management and Organizational Design at Carlos III University of Madrid. In 2010, she was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
In 2008, she participated in the founding of the Democratic Party and co-founded the think tank Italia Futura. She was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies in 2013 with “Con Monti per l’Italia” and later joined the Democratic Party parliamentary group in 2015, focusing primarily on employment, labor, and business issues.
In May 2019, she was elected to the European Parliament in the North-West Italy constituency with over 106,000 preferential votes, becoming the most voted woman in Northern Italy. In September 2019, she was elected Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. From March 2021 to March 2023, she served as Deputy Secretary of the Democratic Party. She was re-elected to the European Parliament in May 2024.
Irene Tinagli has been a columnist for La Stampa and the author of three books: Talento da Svendere (Einaudi, 2008), Un Futuro a Colori (Rizzoli, 2014), and La Grande Ignoranza (Rizzoli, 2019). She is a member of the Scientific Committee of Parks – Liberi e Uguali, the International Observatory on Migrant Health, the Advisory Council of the Florence School of Banking and Finance, the Board of Trustees of Friends of Europe, and the Advisory Board of the Center for Social Norms and Behavioral Dynamics at the University of Pennsylvania. She has been married since 2001 and has one child. He chairs the European Parliament’s Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the European Union (HOUS).
