Suárez Cobián Rolando Guillermo

I was born in Havana, on January 31, 1942 and I am 74 years old. I get married to Ms. Alina C. Pérez Carreras and we have four children, all adults aged and professionals – doctors and production technicians in electrical and industrial chemical energy.
After I formed at the Public Elementary School “Salvador Cisneros Betancourt” and in the Secondary School of Vedado, the latter in the years 1954-1959, I graduated in Science and Letters.
In the period from 1960 to 1965 he studied law at the University of Havana obtaining the title of doctor of laws. My thesis was on obligations and contracts in civil law.
Since my graduation I have always worked as Legal Adviser in the Ministry of light industry and textile unions, clothing and rubber (all monopolies of the Cuban State).
As a member of the Union of Jurists of Cuba and founder of the Labour Law Society, where I presented numerous articles and publications mainly on the labor code.
I am enrolled in the General Register of Jurists with the No. 4101 (initially with the n° 2109). In 1986, I was a member of the National Jury Award “Ignacio Agramonte”, the highest award in the legal field in Cuba.
For ten years, I was a member (judge) of the “Consejo de Apelaciones Laborales de Guanabacoa” and the “Consejo Laboral Revisión” (supreme audit of resolution of the labor dispute) until it is not passed the ordinary jurisdiction of the court conciliatory and decisive.
I have been a professor of labor law and civil law; Constitutional and economic in the period 1979-1987 of the School of Law Technique “Julián Grimau Alemán” of Havana and the Institute of Economics Technical “Raúl Cepero Bonilla”.
I taught in postgraduate courses for the training of legal advisors of the Ministry of light industry and in the field of Theory of the State and of the Commercial Law.
In my professional life I have received many awards for my work, including, in addition to teaching, for the support given to the trade unions in the development of collective bargaining agreements and opinions on new legislation.
In the period 1993-2000 in which I served as Director of Caritas Cubana. My main work was aimed at the formation of the institution, establishment of local authorities, as well as the introduction of humanitarian assistance programs, emergency and human development. I was also elected coordinator of the Caribbean region of the Caritas Internationalis and member of Executive Committee for five years, from 1995 to 1999.
Actually, I am the legal advisor of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Cuba and Consultant of the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People.
I am a Knight of the Order of the Knights Hospitallers of Rhodes and Malta, in the Association Cuban and which got the medal Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice.
