Who we are
Silvestri Giampaolo

Secretary-General of the AVSI Foundation, he joined AVSI in 1996. Starting as the project coordinator for Eastern Europe, he went on to become Director of the Projects Division and subsequently Executive Director. In 2013, he was appointed Secretary-General and was reappointed for further four-year terms in 2017, 2021 and 2025. In 2015, he was appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as a member of the National Council for Development Cooperation, representing civil society organisations and other non-profit bodies. Since April 2024, he has been attending meetings of the Steering Committee for the Mattei Plan for Africa, established by the Prime Minister’s Office. Since May 2025, he has been a member of the board of trustees of the Triulza Foundation. Since 2015, he has been a regular contributor to *Corriere della Sera*.
An expert in project management, general management, fundraising, public affairs, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and innovation, he has successfully led the organisation, achieving significant results in sectors ranging from education and the environment to child protection, democratisation and human rights in various geographical contexts such as Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America, forging relationships with key government, international and private-sector donors.
