Toshiyuki Mimaki, born in Itabashi, Tokyo, in March 1942, is an activist and co-chairman of Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese organisation promoting nuclear disarmament. He is a leading voice in the organisation’s efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons. Mimaki was three years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. He is co-chairman of Nihon Hidankyo, an organisation founded in 1956 by the hibakusha, the survivors of the atomic bombing. Mimaki still actively participates in awareness-raising work carried out by the association, advocating internationally for the abolition of nuclear weapons and promoting lasting peace. In 2024, Mimaki, together with his fellow co-chairmen, received the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of Nihon Hidankyo in Oslo. On that occasion, he expressed his hope that the prize would lend global credibility to nuclear disarmament.
