Giovanni Malagò

Giovanni Malagò (born in Rome on 13 March 1959) holds a degree in Economics and Business.

He is Chief Executive Officer and a shareholder of the Sa.Mo.Car. Spa Group, as well as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and a shareholder of Samofin Spa, and has held numerous positions in the banking and financial sectors. For 20 years he was President of the Circolo Canottieri Aniene, of which he is now Honorary President. He has served as a Director of the Auditorium-Parco della Musica and as an Advisor for Italy at HSBC Bank. He is currently a member of the Guido Carli Foundation jury, a member of the Advisory Board of Agenda Sant’Egidio, an Honorary Member and Director of AIL, and an independent member of the Executive Board of UNICEF Italy.

He has made his passion for sport the central theme of his life: he was a five-a-side footballer and, representing Italy, took part in the 1986 World Cup.He served as President of Virtus Pallacanestro Roma and chaired the Organising Committees for the 50th Ferrari in 1997, the 1998 and 1999 Italian Open tennis tournaments, the 2005 Men’s European Volleyball Championships, the 2006 Euroleague Volleyball and the 2009 World Swimming Championships in Rome, and served as Managing Director of the Organising Committee for the 2010 World Volleyball Championships.

Awarded the Stella d’Oro al Merito Sportivo in 2002 and, in 2016, the title of Grand Officer by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, he has been President of CONI since 19 February 2013. A member of the ANOC Marketing and New Funding Sources Commission, since 2015 he has been a member of the IOC’s Public Affairs and Social Development for Sport Commission, whose Executive Board proposed his candidacy for full individual membership last July.
