Letta Enrico

Enrico Letta, born in Pisa on August 20, 1966, is a politician and academic, currently President of the Institut Jacques Delors and Dean of the IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs at IE University. He graduated in Political Science from the University of Pisa and continued his studies at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. He was awarded the title of Commander of the Legion of Honour of the French Republic.
He began his political career in the Democrazia Cristiana and later joined the Partito Popolare Italiano. Between 1991 and 1995 he served as President of the Youth of the European People’s Party, and in 1993 he was Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under Minister Beniamino Andreatta. In 1998, he was appointed Minister for European Policies in the D’Alema government, and later Minister of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts in the D’Alema II and Amato II governments (1999–2001).
He was a Member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2006 and Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council in the second Prodi government. In 2007, he was among the founders of the Partito Democratico (PD), serving as Deputy Secretary in 2009. After the 2013 elections, he became Prime Minister, leading a grand coalition government until February 2014. From 2015 to 2021, he served as Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) at Sciences Po, Paris, and from March 2021 to March 2023, he was National Secretary of the PD.
In 2024, he authored the report Much More Than a Market on the future of the European Single Market, commissioned by the European Council and the European Commission, contributing to the strategic debate on the Single Market. He is currently a Member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and continues to combine political engagement with international academic and research activities.
