Paolo Lembo has been with the United Nations System since 1987, holding increasingly responsible positions in several assignments, mostly related to complex emergencies. Among the others, he has been Executive Director of the World Green Economy Organization, Director of the UN Regional Center for the Middle East, Special Representative ai of the Secretary-General in Tajikistan, United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Burundi, Kosovo, Kuwait, UAE, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen. He also held assignments with the Department of Political Affairs, Department of Peace-Keeping Operations, UNDP, UNRWA, IFAD. He holds an MA in Philosophy from the Rome University and an High Diploma from the Drama Institute of Italy. He has authored or supervised several UN publications and studies, mostly concerned with peace-building and human development. He is a member of the Senior Advisory Board of the United Nations Peace University and regularly holds post-graduate courses on Peace-Keeping and Humanitarian Affaires at several universities in Europe and the US.
