Kidane Habtezghi Azezet

Original: Azezet Habtezghi Kidane, also known as Sister Aziza, was born in Eritrea and is now a British citizen. A Combonian missionary nun, she has worked in Sudan, Ethiopia and has lived in the Holy Land since 2010. With Doctors for Human Rights, she worked in a mobile clinic in Tel Aviv providing free care to African refugees who had made the journey to Israel via the Sinai Peninsula. She helped uncover and expose the network of torture camps used by human traffickers to extort money from refugees. She was awarded the Trafficking in People Report Hero Acting to End Modern Slavery award by the US Department of Justice. Sr Aziza continues to help African refugee women through Kuchinate, the cooperative she co-founded to promote their economic, psychological and social empowerment. Sr Aziza has also worked for many years in Bedouin villages, setting up self-managed kindergartens and promoting education for Bedouin women as well.
