Ishara Sergio

Sergio Ishara is a psychiatrist and holds a Doctorate in Mental Health from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. He is the clinical coordinator of the Day Psychiatric Hospital at the Hospital of Clinics of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto – USP. He is also co-founder and coordinator of the Community Mental Health Group Program and the Training Course for Coordinators of the Program.

In 1997, he created the Community Mental Health Group Program in collaboration with Professor Carmen Lúcia Cardoso, a Psychology professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters at the University of São Paulo in Ribeirão Preto.

The program is designed to embrace life experiences from the perspective of personal development and community building. It currently organizes group meetings in various Brazilian and international cities. Its work focuses on attention and care directed toward daily experiences, inviting participants to adopt a presence-oriented approach to life, understood as self-awareness and awareness of reality.
