Fumarola Daniela

Daniela Fumarola, an Italian trade unionist, was born in Taranto on 28 May 1966, the city where she still lives. She graduated in sociological sciences from the Catholic University of Milan.
Her trade union experience began in 1987 in the FISBA, the CISL federation representing agricultural workers. Here she dedicated herself for years to outreach work, supporting the work of farm labourers in municipal leagues. FISBA then merged with FAT into FAI.
Her progression in the CISL saw her join the secretariat of FISBA in Taranto in 1993, be elected secretary general of the territorial FAI (Taranto) in 2002 and take on responsibility for the Women’s Coordination for the national federation. In 2009 she was elected general secretary of the CISL Taranto, then Taranto-Brindisi, holding the post until 2015. Subsequently, in 2015, she became deputy secretary general of the Usi CISL Puglia Basilicata, and was then elected secretary general of the CISL Puglia and Basilicata in 2016 by the interregional general council. Since the congress of 23 May 2017, she has held the position of regional general secretary of CISL Puglia.
His journey at national level began with his election to the CISL Confederal Secretariat on 29 July 2020. His areas of expertise in this role include organisational policies, membership, statutes, trade union freedoms, coordination of bodies and associations, trade union cadre policy and youth project, services to members, human resources management and internal services at the confederal headquarters, and youth, women and gender equality policies. From 3 March 2021 to 12 February 2025, she served as Deputy General Secretary of the ICFTU.
From 12 February 2025, Daniela Fumarola is the General Secretary of the ICFTU. She was unanimously nominated by the secretariat and elected by the national assembly. She succeeds Luigi Sbarra and is the second woman in the history of the CISL to hold this highest office after Annamaria Furlan.
