Fontana Luciano

Luciano Fontana, born in Frosinone on January 11, 1959, lives in Milan, is married, and has two children. He graduated in Philosophy from the University of La Sapienza in Rome, discussing his thesis with Tullio De Mauro.
He began his journalistic career as a correspondent from Frosinone for the ANSA news agency, then joined L’Unità in 1986 as a trainee. He worked there until 1997, covering domestic and international news, and later served as head of the political desk and deputy editor-in-chief. On February 1, 1997, he joined Corriere della Sera as deputy editor-in-chief, becoming editor-in-chief in 2000, deputy director in 2003, and co-director in 2009. In this role, he oversaw the launch of the newspaper’s online edition, consolidating his expertise in Italian and international politics.
Since May 1, 2015, he has been the director of Corriere della Sera, succeeding Ferruccio de Bortoli. In December 2023, he was confirmed as director until May 2025 by publisher Urbano Cairo. He published the book Un paese senza leader. Storie, protagonisti e retroscena di una classe politica in crisi (Longanesi, 2018) and in December 2025 received the “Journalist of the Year” award at the Tg Poste Prize, in recognition of his professional achievements.
His career combines journalistic expertise, editorial experience, and political insight, making him one of the leading figures in the Italian media landscape, with particular attention to politics, society, and the digital transformation of the media.
