Who we are
Fares Joseph

Joseph Fares was born in Damascus in 1958. He is married and has two sons.
He graduated with excellent marks in Medicine (Damascus), and then specialized in General Surgery, Medical and Surgical Coloproctology, and in Microsurgery at the University of Paris VI Pierre & Marie Curie. Moreover, he specialized in Laparoscopic and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Strasbourg (France) and in Digestive and Celioscopic Surgery at St. Joseph University of Beirut.
From 1994 to 1997, he was the Technical and Executive Director of the Italian Hospital in Damascus; since 1997, he has been the Medical and General Director of the Italian Hospital in Damascus. He was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2002 and the title of Knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great by the Vatican in 2007. In 2010, he received the recognition from the Presidency of the Italian Republic with the decree conferring Italian citizenship for special merits.
Since 1989, he has been a Full Member of the Association Française de Chirurgie and a Full Member of the Syrian Association of Surgery.
Currently, he serves as General and Laparoscopic Surgeon at the Italian Hospital of Damascus and he is also the Trusted Doctor at the Italian Embassy in Damascus, apart from his role of Director of the Hospital.
