Who we are
Ercoli Riccardo

Riccardo Ercoli is the Executive Director for Italy, Portugal, Greece, Malta, Albania, and San Marino at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He is an expert economist with over 20 years of experience in national and international institutions. Formerly Head of the Technical Secretariat of the Italian Minister of Economy, Ercoli was selected to join the technical committee of the Mattei Plan and has developed cross-sectoral expertise in public finance, budgetary processes, and structural reforms.
With an academic background in economics and political science, he worked for more than a decade in the Budget Committee of the Italian Senate and collaborated with both the European Commission and the IMF. Among his most significant roles, he was part of the so-called “Greece Troika”, contributing to the technical assistance program for Greek debt management—an experience that strengthened his ability to address public finance challenges in close cooperation with the IMF and the European Central Bank.
His understanding of EU dynamics deepened through his work on the European Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), where he supported decision-making processes in strategic sectors such as public administration, healthcare, and infrastructure.
