Cartabia Marta

Marta Cartabia is an Italian jurist born in San Giorgio su Legnano, Milan, in 1963. After obtaining a degree in law with V. Onida and participating in international courses in France and the United States, she worked as a researcher in Constitutional Law at the University of Milan and as a research assistant at the Constitutional Court. She is a full professor of Constitutional Law and an expert in international law and the integration of European and national constitutional systems. 

 In 2011, she was appointed Judge of the Italian Constitutional Court by President Giorgio Napolitano. From 2014 to 2019, she served as Vice President of the Constitutional Court and in that year, she was elected President, becoming the first woman to hold that position, which she held along with her role as a Judge until 2020. From February 13, 2021, to October 22, 2022, she served as the Minister of Justice in the Draghi government. In the same year, she was appointed as an ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences by Pope Francis. In 2022, she was elected President of the Casa di Dante in Rome. She was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2011. 

 Among her most recent publications, it is worth mentioning “Giustizia e mito. Con Edipo, Antigone, Creonte” (with L. Violante, 2018) and “Un’altra storia inizia qui. La giustizia come ricomposizione” (with A. Ceretti, 2020).
