President of Emilia-Romagna region since November 2014. Since December 2015 he is also the President of the Conference of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces.
Member of the Democratic Party, in the past he was first Regional Secretary and then he took part in the National Secretary of Renzi’s Democratic Party, with delegation to local authorities. During the first years of political commitment, he was Modena’s municipal assessor with delegation to public works, cultural heritage and historic centre. Previously he performed as assessor for Youth policies, culture, sports and leisure time in Campogalliano, his birthplace. Instead from 2009 to 2010 he was city councilman of Modena and then regional councillor of Emilia-Romagna region.
