Berete Aly

Aly Berete is a young person involved in Save the Children’s ‘Civico Zero’ project in Turin. Born on 20 April 2007 in Macenta (Guinea-Conakry), he grew up with his family until, at the age of 16, he set off alone for Europe. He arrived in Italy in 2024 at the age of 17 and settled in Turin, with the dream of studying and becoming a chef. Thanks to Civico Zero, he quickly learnt Italian and obtained his lower secondary school certificate.

In the summer of 2025, he further developed his passion for cooking by taking part in the Youth&Food programme and undertaking a work placement; in September, he enrolled on a vocational course to become a catering assistant. In June 2026, he successfully completed his first year and his work placement at a restaurant in the centre of Turin, where he is now on a work placement. In September, he will return to school to gain his qualification and fulfil his dream.
