SØREN KIERKEGAARD
Love, birth, silence, joy
The exhibition traces the fundamental moments of the philosophical and existential journey of the great Danish thinker Søren Kierkegaard (1813–1855), seen through the eyes of an exceptional reader of his work: the young landscape painter Johan Thomas Lundbye (1818–1848), one of the most talented exponents of the “Golden Age” of Danish arts, sciences, and thought. The figure of this passionate young reader, desperately searching for the meaning of his own existence, allows every visitor to identify with him and to reflect on certain themes that are fundamental for people today as in every age — themes to which Kierkegaard, as a thinker and as an individual, devoted his work and his life, granting them full philosophical dignity: singularity, the self, interiority, along a path that moves gradually from despair toward the recognition of the possibility of faith — a faith that means love, silence — as against the clamor of the world — and ultimately joy.
