Tommaso Spazzini Villa
Of Tommaso Spazzini Villa’s project, Cardinal Tolentino offers this key: “a reflection on the fragile yet tenacious bonds that have their roots in our being-in-the-world.” His journey introduces us to a perspective on the Divine Comedy and other texts that communicate themselves to our present with an unprecedented light. The artist then returns once more to those same pages, carrying out a profound and deeply personal transformation of the original text until it becomes a new work, a self-portrait that anyone can recreate, if they so wish. There are many provocations that move this artist and drive him to create works that speak of transformation and rebirth — works that tell different stories until they merge into a single story, a story in continuous evolution that must be faced with hope.
Tommaso Spazzini Villa lives and works in Rome. He holds a degree in art history from the Sapienza University of Rome; during his studies, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, focusing on drawing and painting techniques. His works are held in public and private collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which in 2019 acquired a work from his Ombre (Shadows) series.
