Massimiliano Salini

Massimiliano Salini, born on March 11, 1973, in Soresina, Italy, completed his secondary studies at the Ginnasio “D. Manin” in Cremona and the Liceo “A. Racchetti” in Crema. He graduated in Law from the University of Milan with a thesis in Constitutional Law on the right to education. During his university years, he was actively involved in student politics, serving as a member of the Academic Senate, President of the Student Conference, and member of the Regional Coordination Committee of Lombard universities.

From 1998 to 2000, he worked in the staff of the President of the Lombardy Regional Government, focusing on regional economic and productive policies. He later held managerial roles in the multi-utility sector, including Vice President of Cremasca Servizi SpA and board member of LGH Linea Group Holding, as well as a position on the board of Linea Ambiente SpA.
In June 2009, he was elected President of the Province of Cremona as an independent supported by a center-right coalition. In the 2014 European elections, he was elected to the European Parliament in the North-West Italy constituency, joining the European People’s Party (EPP) group. He serves as a full member of the Committees on Transport and Tourism, Industry, Research and Energy, and the Special Committee on Financial Crimes, Tax Evasion and Avoidance. In May 2018, he was the rapporteur for the new space regulation within the 2021–2027 financial programming. Re-elected in 2019 with about 37,000 votes, he was second only to Silvio Berlusconi in the constituency.

Since June 2024, Salini has served as Vice-President of the EPP group in the European Parliament, the largest political family in the chamber. He is a member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and of the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (10th legislature, 2024–2029), and a substitute member of the Committees on Foreign Affairs and Industry, Research and Energy, as well as the Delegation for relations with Maghreb countries. In January 2026, he emphasized to the European Parliament the importance of a common European defense as a cornerstone of the Union’s political agenda.
