Martina Maurizio

Maurizio Martina was bron in Cilcinate (BG) in 1978. He is married and the father of two.
After graduating from the Agricultural Technical Institute in Bergamo, which he followed with a degree in Political Science. In 1999 he was elected to City Councilor, a position he held until 2004. Also in 2004, after a militancy in the youth organization of the Left Democrats, he was elected Secretary of the Province of Bergamo.
In 2006, he assumed the chair of the Regional Secretary of the Left Democrats in Lombardia. In 2007, he was among the founders of the Democratic Party. In the same year, following the primary, he was elected to be the first Secretary of the Democratic Party of Lombardia.
In 2009, again through the process of the primaries, was re-elected to lead the Democratic Party of the Lombardia Region. In 2010, he was elected Councilor of the Region of Lombardia, a position confirmed in the popular elections in 2013. During his terms as Councilor of the Region of Lombardia, he became a part of the Commission for Institutional Affairs and of the Commission of Production Activities.
On May 3rd, 2013, he was sworn in as Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Agricultural Food and Forestry Policies of the Government of Letta.
On May 9th, 2013, he resigned as Councilor of the Region of Lombardia. With the Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers (d.P.C.m.) on the 24th of May, 2013, he was given authority to chair the Coordination Commission for activities related to EXPO ‘Milano 2015.
On February 22nd, 2014, Martina was sworn in as Minister of Agricultural Food and Forestry Policies in the government of Renzi. In July of 2014, he took over the office of President of the European Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries as part of the EU Italian Presidency.
