"The heroism of the 19 martyrs lies above all in having chosen to remain in Algeria in order to fully share the condition of their local brothers."
(Card. Jean-Paul Vesco, Archbishop of Algiers)

In an Algeria marked by civil war in the 1990s, nineteen Catholic Christians lived out their vocation alongside the Algerian people, fully aware of the danger but faithful to their choice to stay.
In the fourth stage of the Road to Meeting, we introduce a preview of “Men and Women of God”, the Meeting 2025 exhibition dedicated to the martyrs of Algeria, beatified in 2018.
From the monastery of Tibhirine to the library of Algiers, from the church of the Little Sisters in Bab-el-Oued to the home of Bishop Pierre Claverie, visitors will be guided through a journey of images, testimonies, videos, and previously unseen documents that recount their lives, their friendship with Muslims, and their sacrifice as a seed of reconciliation and a possible peace.
Not a celebration of death, but a hymn to a life freely given.
Listen to Pierre Candiard, Dominican and Islamic scholar based in Cairo, as he invites you to visit the exhibition.
