Visintin Stefano

Dom Stefano Visintin has been the Abbot of the Abbey of Praglia (Teolo, Padua) and the Abbey of San Giorgio Maggiore (Venice) since June 8, 2019.

He holds a degree in Physics with a specialization in Nuclear Physics from the University of Trieste (1988), having defended a dissertation on “High-Energy Mass Spectrometry” developed as part of a joint research program involving the Universities of Trieste, Padua, Naples, and Rochester (NY, USA). He subsequently undertook theological studies, earning a Baccalaureate from the Pontifical Atheneum of Sant’Anselmo in 1994, followed by a Licentiate in Theology (1996) and a Doctorate in Theology with a specialization in Fundamental Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1999. In 2007, he also obtained a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the European University of Rome.

A Professor of Fundamental Theology at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Atheneum of Sant’Anselmo, he has held highly prominent academic positions within the institution, including Dean of the Faculty of Theology (2005-2016), Vice-Rector (2009-2017), and Rector Magnificus (2017-2019). His current research focuses on the relationship between science and theology.
