Vallortigara Giorgio

Giorgio Vallortigara is a Professor of Neuroscience at the Center for Mind-Brain Sciences at the University of Trento, of which he was also Director until March 2015 to assume the new role as Pro-Rector at the Research of the University of Trento .

He has also been Adjunct Professor for several years at the University of New England, Australia, at the School of Biology, Biomedical and Molecular Sciences.

He is author of more than 250 scientific articles on international journals (with over 13,000 quotes) and some popular books: “Birdbrain. (Guided) visits between ethology and neuroscience “, Bollati-Boringhieri, Turin, 2005 (winner of the Peace Prize for Scientific Disclosure in 2006),” Born to believe “(with V. Girotto and T. He also published in 2013 the monograph “Divided Brains” with L.J. Rogers and R.J. Andrew for Cambridge University Press, now translated for Mondadori Education (with the title “Cervelli divisi”, 2017).

In 2011 he obtained one of the prestigious ERC Advanced Research Grant of the European Community and in 2016 the Geoffroy Saint Hilaire International Award for Ethology and a Honorary Degree from the University of Ruhr, Germany. He is a member of the Veneto Institute of Literature and Arts Sciences and Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology.

In addition to scientific research, he has a strong disclosure activity, collaborating with the cultural sections of various newspapers and magazines, such as Il Sole 24 Ore and Le Scienze.
