Iolanda Tortù

Born in Switzerland to immigrant parents in 1975, she grew up in Abruzzo until 1998, when she joined the Prison Service. She served as an officer at the Beccaria Juvenile Detention Centre from 1999 to 2018, then as an inspector at Bollate Prison until 2021. From 2021 to 2023, she completed a PhD in Health Promotion and Cognitive Science with a thesis on the organisational wellbeing of Prison Police staff working in juvenile detention centres. In December 2025, following a further competitive selection process, she was appointed Chief Superintendent and took up the post of Commander of the Beccaria Juvenile Detention Centre.
In addition to his institutional duties, since 2008 he has been collaborating with prison police training colleges, both on courses relating to juvenile justice and on DAP courses. He also carries out research in the prison sector, in association with the Department of Social Psychology at the University of Milan-Bicocca.
