Maria Acqua Simi

Maria Acqua Simi (Cremona, 1985). A professional journalist and correspondent, she graduated in Political Science and International Relations from the Catholic University of Milan, with a dissertation on the democratic process in Lebanon written whilst in Beirut.

She began her professional career in Milan, working for Libero and then as a press officer for the AVSI Foundation. From 2011 to 2018, she worked for the foreign affairs section of Il Giornale del Popolo  in Lugano. In 2015, she received an award from the Swiss Association of Catholic Journalists for her reporting as a correspondent in Iraq in 2014. Until 2023, she was an editor at the Swiss news portal Il Federalista.ch. As a correspondent, she has covered – and continues to cover – primarily the Middle East, North Africa and Latin America. She loves Guareschi and the mountains. She is married to Andrea, and they have three children.

She currently works for the magazine Tracce.
