Who we are
Sammour Nawras

Father Nawras Sammour is of Syrian origin and is forty-five years old. From 1996 to 1997, he studied at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, at the Faculty of Islamic Studies. From 1997 to 2002, he studied Philosophy and Theology at the Centre-Sevres in Paris. From 2002 to 2005, Social and Development Studies, also at St Joseph University. Between 2005 and 2007 he obtained a Master’s degree in Social Ethics at St Paul University in Ottawa, Canada.
Until 2009 he was Superior of the Jesuit Community of Damascus and until 2010 was Regional Director of the Jesuit Refugee Service in the Middle East and North Africa regions.
He is an advocate for Iraqi refugees and the development of the emergency response to the Syrian humanitarian crisis. He follows support projects in Syria (Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Lattakia), Turkey (Ankara, Antakya), Jordan (Amman, northern borders), Lebanon (Beirut, Bekaa valley).
