Salzano Antonia

Antonia Salzano is the mother of Carlo Acutis, who died at the age of 15 in 2006 from acute leukaemia.
Born in 1966 and originally from Centola, in Campania, Antonia Salzano comes from a middle-class family. She lived in Rome, London and Milan before moving to Assisi, where Carlo Acutis’ body has been since 2019. She has been married since 1990 to Andrea Acutis, a member of Turin’s upper middle class and corporate financier at the investment bank Lazard Brothers. Their son Carlo was born in London on 3 March 1991, while the family was living in the United Kingdom for his father’s work.
Four years after Carlo’s death, in 2010, when Antonia was about 44 years old and considered pregnancy almost impossible, Carlo Acutis announced to her in a dream that she would become a mother again. Shortly afterwards, Antonia became pregnant with twins, Francesca and Michele. The twins, now 15 years old, have also developed a strong religious faith, following a path similar to that of Carlo.
After Carlo’s death, Antonia has dedicated much of her life to promoting the memory and cause of her son’s beatification and canonisation. She participates in interviews and documentaries and collaborates with Catholic media. She is also the author of the book “Il segreto di mio figlio: Perché Carlo Acutis è considerato un santo” (My Son’s Secret: Why Carlo Acutis is Considered a Saint). Her son Carlo will be proclaimed a saint on 7 September 2025, together with Pier Giorgio Frassati.
