Pitruzzella Giovanni

Since November 29, 2011, Giovanni Pitruzzella has served as the President of the Italian Competition Authority (on competition and the market).
Born in 1959, Pitruzzella has been a full professor of Constitutional Law since 1994, first at the University of Cagliari and then at the University of Palermo. Previously, from 1986 to 1993, he was an associate professor at the Institution of Public Law. For approximately 20 years, he practiced as an administrative attorney.
In 2006, Pitruzzella was appointed to the Commission dedicated to ensuring the implementation of the law on strikes in essential public services, of which he was the president from 2009 to 2011.
Pitruzzella was also the President of the Joint Committee for the implementation of the Sicilian statute.
He served as legal counsel to bodies of Parliament, Ministers, and Presidents of the region.
In April of 2013, he was appointed by the President of the Republic to be among the ten “sages” for the Commission for Institutional, Economic, and Social Reform, and in June of the same year, the President of the Council appointed him as a member of the group of experts called to propose a project for Constitutional Reform.
He is the co-author, with Roberto Bin, of the manual of Constitutional Law (Giappichelli), which is now in its sixteenth edition and used in major Italian universities, and a co-author with Roberto Bin and Paolo Carretti for the volume “Profili costituzionali dell’Unione europea”. He is the author of numerous articles published in law reviews, and has edited many anthologies. Pitruzzella has also published six monographs, among which are “Forme di governo e trasformazioni della politica” (Laterza 1996) and, together with Vincenzo Lippolis, “Il bipolarismo conflittuale” (Rubbettino 2007).
