Giovanni Orsina

Giovanni Orsina (Rome, 1967) is an Italian historian and political scientist, a full professor of Contemporary History at LUISS Guido Carli i, where he heads the Department of Political Science and previously led the School of Government.

After graduating with honours in Political Science from LUISS in 1991 – his thesis was awarded the prize for best thesis of the year – he went on to obtain a PhD in the History of Contemporary Italy from Roma Tre University. He has taught at the Universities of Bologna, L’Aquila and La Sapienza in Rome, and has been a visiting scholar and visiting professor at St Antony’s College, Sciences Po and the École Normale Supérieure de Cachan.

His research focuses on 20th-century European political history, liberalism, political parties and the transformations of contemporary democracy. His best-known works include *Berlusconism in the History of Italy* (2013), *The Democracy of Narcissism: A Brief History of Anti-Politics* (2018) and *Anti-Politics* (2021). A columnist for *La Stampa* and *L’Espresso*, he is regarded as one of the most authoritative interpreters of contemporary Italian political history.His most recent work is Controrivoluzione.
