He was reconfirmed unanimously in 2016 by the board presided over by Monica Maggioni. As the Director of TGR, Morgante was responsible for 24 newsrooms across Italy, with over 750 journalists and around 200 administrative staff. Under Morgante’s leadership, TGR underwent a digitalization process in its 24 local newsrooms and launched regional websites for RAI.
In September 2013, Morgante was appointed as a member of the selection committee for the hiring of new RAI journalists, a committee chaired by former editor-in-chief of La Stampa and TG1, Marcello Sorgi. During his tenure at TGR, the news program received the “Biagio Agnes” Journalism Award in the television category in 2016. Morgante also chairs the jury of the international journalism award “Marco Lucchetta.”
