Morana Michele

As of January 1, 2025, Michele Morana is the Head of the AICS office in Addis Ababa, responsible for Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, and Djibouti.
Michele Morana is an expert in international cooperation and development. After earning degrees in Architecture and International Cooperation, he obtained a PhD in Development Evaluation. Since 2002, he has collaborated with the Italian Cooperation system, taking on roles of increasing responsibility.
From 2016 to July 2021, he headed the AICS office in Amman, Jordan, where he launched significant initiatives to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, including the signing of a new Framework Agreement for Development Cooperation in 2019. His initiatives aimed at supporting medium- and long-term development programs as well as providing emergency responses to the Syrian crisis.
Subsequently, Morana directed the AICS office in Khartoum, covering Sudan, Eritrea, Cameroon, Chad, and the Central African Republic. In this role, he emphasized the importance of the health sector, dedicating around 50% of the budget to healthcare interventions, with a particular focus on mental health.
From January 1, 2025, Michele Morana was appointed Head of the AICS office in Addis Ababa, overseeing Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Sudan, and South Sudan. His career is marked by a strong commitment to enhancing the Italian Cooperation system’s capacity to respond to the needs of different countries, expanding staff and operational spaces, and improving development contributions through targeted, effective, and constructive interventions. As Head, he has promoted diversification of cooperation initiatives, including cultural heritage, sustainable tourism, mental health, and the needs of persons with disabilities.
