Mecocci Patrizia

Professor Patrizia Mecocci is Full Professor of Gerontology and Geriatrics at the University of Perugia and Director of the Department of Geriatrics at the S.M. Misericordia Hospital in Perugia. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery and completed his specialisation in Geriatrics at the University of Perugia. He also obtained a PhD in Biology and Pathophysiology of Ageing from the University of Modena. Thanks to a CNR grant, she spent three years as a researcher abroad, first at the Department of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry of the University of Lund (Sweden) and then at the Department of Neurology of the MGH-Harvard Medical School in Boston (USA). He embarked on his academic career in Perugia, Italy, where he now directs the Geriatric Clinic. His research focuses on clinical and neuropsychological aspects of ageing, biological studies on ageing and in particular on oxidative stress. He is Senior Editor of the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and member of the editorial boards of other leading scientific journals (Alzheimer’s and Dementia TRCI, American Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias, International Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, Nutrients, Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience). She has participated as a partner in several projects funded by the European Union (FP6, FP7, Horizon 2020, JPND) and the Italian Ministry of Health and MIUR. She is the leader of the ReGAl (Geriatric Network on Alzheimer’s disease) project that developed in Italy the first Electronic Health Record (EHR) for data collection on a large number of elderly subjects with cognitive and somatic problems. She is author or co-author of over 340 peer-reviewed publications, has contributed to numerous books and monographs and is a regular speaker at international congresses.
