Manara Carlo Felice

Associate Astronomer at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Garching, Germany, after a PhD from the LMU University in Munich (Germany) based on research work carried out at ESO, a Fellowship at the European Space Agency (ESA) in the Netherlands, and a Fellowship at ESO in Garching. He is Principal Investigator (PI) of the ERC Starting Grant WANDA (2022-2027).

His research focuses on the study of the interaction between the forming star and the protoplanetary disk around it, with the goal to understand the physical process acting in the disk at the time when planets form. By combining astronomical data from a variety of ground- and space-based telescopes, his research group aims at understanding how the material from which the planets are formed is distributed in the protoplanetary disks.

At ESO he works for the User Support Department, which helps the astronomers worldwide to prepare the observations on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile. At the same time, he supports various future instrumentation projects for the VLT and the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), currently being built in Chile.
