Maffeis Ivan

Ivan Maffeis is Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Perugia–Città della Pieve, appointed by Pope Francis on July 16, 2022, and consecrated on September 11, 2022, by Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti.
Ordained priest on June 26, 1988, for the Archdiocese of Trento, he studied at the Trento Seminary and earned a doctorate in Social Communication Sciences from the Pontifical Salesian University in 1994. He served as parochial vicar in Mori (1988–1990) and parish priest in Ravina–Romagnano (1994–2000), and was also a professor and diocesan assistant of Catholic Action (1994–2002).
From 2000 to 2009, he directed the weekly Vita Trentina and radio Studio Sette in‑Blu, and was national secretary of FISC. At the CEI (Italian Bishops’ Conference) from 2010, he served as deputy director (2010–2015), director of the Social Communications Office (2015–2019), undersecretary (2015–2020), and official spokesperson. Since 2017, he has been a consultant to the Dicastery for Communication.
He returned to Trento in 2020 as parish priest in several communities. He taught Media Ethics at the Salesian and Lateran Pontifical Universities (2010–2022).
On September 29, 2022, he was appointed to the Dicastery for Communication and on February 17, 2024, to the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. On June 29, 2023, he received the pallium from Pope Francis.
