Chiara Locatelli

A neonatologist and paediatrician at Sant’Orsola Hospital in Bologna, Chiara Locatelli is Head of the Neonatal Rare Diseases Clinic, where she cares for children with complex conditions, particularly Down syndrome. In this field, she is carrying out an important research project focused on the treatment of intellectual disability in patients with Down syndrome.

From 2009 to 2011, she worked at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Columbia University in New York, where she pursued her PhD. During this period, she received specialised training in Perinatal Palliative Care through the Comfort Care programme developed by Professor Parravicini. After returning to Italy, she further developed her expertise in this field and is now responsible for a Perinatal Palliative Care project called the “Giacomo Pathway” at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Sant’Orsola Hospital.
