Liverani Giovanni

Giovanni Liverani  (born in Udine on June 1, 1964) is an Italian executive with a long and distinguished career in the insurance industry, primarily within the Generali Group.

He currently serves as President of ANIA (Italian National Association of Insurance Companies) since 2024, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Genertel S.p.A. since July 5, 2024, and Vice President of FEBAF (Italian Banking, Insurance and Finance Federation) since April 11, 2025.

Liverani holds a degree in Industrial Technology Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano. He began his career in September 1991 as a researcher at the Trieste headquarters of Assicurazioni Generali.

In September 1993, he was among the co-founders of Genertel S.p.A., the Generali Group’s first direct online insurance company in Italy. At Genertel, he held various key management board positions until January 2006, including Marketing Manager and Chief Commercial and Operating Officer, with responsibility for Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

His career within the Generali Group continued with increasing international responsibilities:

From 2006 to 2011, he was Area Manager for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and founded the Group’s international project dedicated to direct distribution channels.

From 2011 to 2013, he coordinated Central European operations as Head of the Business Coordination Unit (BCU) and Head of the Business Performance Management Unit (BPMU).

From 2013 to 2015, he served as Regional Officer for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), overseeing 23 insurance companies and several service providers in various countries.

On April 1, 2015, Liverani was appointed CEO of Generali Deutschland AG and Generali Versicherungen, joining the Group Management Committee (GMC) of Generali. During his tenure, he led a major restructuring of the Group’s operations in Germany, transforming Generali into the second-largest insurance provider in the German market. As a result of this success, in May 2019 he was included in the ranking of “Germany’s 100 Best CEOs” by Deutschland Manager Magazine, as the only Italian featured.

Until May 2024, he served as CEO of Generali’s DACH Business Unit (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland), the Group’s second-largest unit, contributing significantly to making Germany Generali’s main market outside of Italy.
