Latorre José Ignacio

José Ignacio Latorre holds a PhD in Particle Physics from the University of Barcelona. He was a Fullbright Fellow at MIT (USA) and a postdoc at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen. He was Associate Professor and later Full Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Barcelona, where he is currently on leave. His research areas include Particle Physics, Quantum Information and Artificial Intelligence. He currently holds several senior positions: he is Director of the Center for Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore and Chief Researcher of the Quantum Research Centre at the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) in Abu Dhabi. He is also Director of the Centro de Ciencias de Benasque Pedro Pascual, an institution that supports international scientific events. He also leads the Quantic Group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC) and is the head of the Quantic project, aimed at building the first quantum processor in Spain. He is a partner in Entanglement Partners and Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech. He has contributed significantly to the scientific literature with over 130 research articles in international journals on particle physics and quantum information (over 100 according to another source), and has written three books on quantum mechanics and the ethics of artificial intelligence. He has directed 12 doctoral theses. José Ignacio Latorre was a founder of the Centro de Ciencias de Benasque Pedro Pascual and the NNPDF collaboration, which develops artificial intelligence technology for the analysis of data from the LHC at CERN. He has also been associated with the foundation of several start-ups, including a spin-off from the University of Barcelona. He is actively involved in science outreach, giving motivational lectures, organising exhibitions and editing documentaries, including one on the latest entry of the Manhattan Project.
