Jurkovič Ivan

His Excellency Archbishop Ivan Jurkovič was born in 1952 in Slovenia and was ordained a priest in 1977 in Ljubljana. Here he graduated from the Faculty of Theology in 1978 and two years later undertook studies at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, after which in 1984 he began his diplomatic service for the Holy See as Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in South Korea. In 1988 he became Doctor of Canon Law and took up the post of Councillor of the Apostolic Nunciature first in Colombia, then in the Representation of the Holy See to the Russian Federation and finally in the Vatican Secretariat of State. In October 2001 he was consecrated Titular Archbishop of Corbavia and, in the same year, assumed the role of Apostolic Nuncio. In these capacities he served in Belarus, until 2004, in Ukraine, from 2004 to 2011, in the Russian Federation, from 2011 to 2016. Since March 2016, he has been Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and other International Organisations in Geneva.
